Welcome 2021!
So excited to welcome the New Year! Needless to say, 2020 was unlike any other year during my lifetime! Recently, I read an article by Colleen Duggan, the manager of Span Community House regarding the trials endured by persons born in the year 1900. My own beloved grandparents were witness to the events of World War I, the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918, and The Great Depression resulting from the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange in 1929. Then, in subsequent years, both my grandparents as well as my parents survived World War II. Sadly, grandparents watched and waited nervously as their sons and daughters served our Nation during this horrific war which saw the rise of Nazism and the Holocaust. In1950 the next conflict with U.S. involvement, the Korean War, began. Sadly, during the mid 1960's and early '70s the Vietnam War was seen nightly on the major news networks. Many grandparents saw their grandchildren and parents saw their sons and daughters drafted into service during this unsettling time. Years have passed and in the current environment there are many advantages and comforts never envisioned by our ancestors. Today, not everyone, but the majority of folk have comfortable homes with heat, electricity, and running water. Mobile cell phone users can easily communicate across the great seas to vast parts of the world. People also enjoy the convenience of shopping online with packages being delivered directly to our doors. While the past year has brought many financial challenges and hardships, many people have been able to cope and look forward to a better tomorrow. Thinking about the past century and more, it really has put today's events into perspective and is truly sobering to recall the historical events our parents, grandparents, and greats were forced to face. Amid the darkness of 2020, remember to be grateful for each day, past, present, and future. May good health and happiness abound for all in the New Year! Cheers to 2021 from all of us at Zoey's Attic Personalized Gifts!
